The Detroit Multi-Family FlexCharge Program pays residents in participating apartment communities $50 simply for enrolling and connecting their EV charging account.
No upfront cost and no changes to how you charge
Sign up with your building's site code and connect your charger
Available at buildings with SWTCH or ChargePoint chargers

Property managers register their site and charger network (SWTCH or ChargePoint) with ev.energy. Once approved, your site receives a unique code to share with residents.
Use the code provided by your building to register on the ev.energy platform. This links your account to your site's charger network so we can track your sessions.
We confirm that your EV charger is successfully connected and visible on our platform. You're now enrolled and will hear from us about any opportunities to earn more!
Once your complete your first charging session after signing up your $50 incentive is processed.
Whether you manage a building or live in one, here's everything you need to know.
If your property has SWTCH or ChargePoint EV chargers installed, you may be eligible to join the Detroit Multi-Family FlexCharge Program, sponsored by DTE Energy. Enrollment is free and simple. Once your site is approved, you'll receive a unique site-specific code to distribute to your residents, enabling them to sign up for the driver program.
What sites can earn:
$500 for site connection — paid once your chargers are successfully connected to the ev.energy platform
$100 per enrolled driver — for each resident at your site who signs up, up to 5 drivers ($500 max)
No cost to participate — enrollment and platform connection is fully funded by the program
Resident benefit — each driver at your site gets $50 when they sign up
Ask your property manager if your building is part of the Detroit FlexCharge Program and request your unique site code. Your building must have SWTCH or ChargePoint chargers.
Click Sign Up and create a free ev.energy account. During registration, enter your building's site code in the Promo Code field. This links your account to your building's charger network and makes you eligible for the $50 reward.
Follow the in-app steps to connect your EV and charger account. This lets ev.energy verify your charging activity and confirm your eligibility for the reward.
Once we verify your first charge session, your $50 reward is processed and paid out to your saved payout method — PayPal or Venmo. And that's just the start — enrolled drivers will have opportunities to earn additional rewards throughout the program.
By connecting your charger, you help ev.energy and your utility understand how EV charging is being used across multi-family communities in Detroit. This visibility is the first step toward smarter energy programs that benefit residents in the future.
Grid visibility — gives your utility real insight into EV charging patterns in apartment communities
Future programs — your enrollment helps validate the infrastructure for future rewards and incentives
Detroit EV community — be among the first multi-family residents in a DTE-funded EV program

The Detroit Multifamily FlexCharge Program is a DTE Energy-sponsored initiative that rewards EV drivers in participating apartment communities for signing up and connecting their EV charger to the ev.energy platform. The primary goal is to give DTE and ev.energy visibility into charging activity at multi-family sites. There are no requirements to change how or when you charge. Future phases may introduce optional smart charging features and additional incentives.
The program is delivered by ev.energy sponsored by DTE Energy. ev.energy provides the driver-facing platform, charger integrations, and program management.
This program is focused on enrollment and charger visibility. During the program, enrolled drivers may be invited to participate in optional demand response or low-carbon charging events that offer additional rewards.
Sites receive two types of incentive. First, a $500 reward for connecting your site's chargers to the ev.energy platform — this is paid once the integration is verified and live. Second, a $100 reward for each resident driver who successfully enrolls at your site, up to a maximum of 5 drivers. That means sites can earn up to $1,000 in total .
Because every site is different, the connection process is handled on a bespoke basis by the ev.energy team. Once you express interest via email, we'll reach out to understand your setup and walk you through the steps specific to your charger network. To get started, use the site enrollment button on this page and someone from the team will be in touch within a few business days.
Yes — the technical integration looks different depending on which network your building uses. SWTCH and ChargePoint each have their own connection methods, and the ev.energy team will guide you through the right process for your site. You don't need to do any technical work yourself — just reach out and we'll take it from there.
Currently the program supports sites with SWTCH or ChargePoint EV charger networks installed. If you're unsure which network your building uses, check the hardware on the charging stations or contact your charger provider. If your site uses a different network, reach out anyway — we may be able to discuss options.
No. Site enrollment and platform connection are entirely free. The program is sponsored by DTE Energy — there are no fees for property managers to join, and all driver and site incentives are covered.
Once your site is connected, ev.energy generates a unique code for your building. Your property manager shares this with residents — by email, notice board, or however works best for your community. Residents enter it during sign-up under the Promo Code field to link their account to your building's charger network and qualify for the $50 driver reward. Each driver who enrolls using your code also counts toward your $100-per-driver site incentive.
Yes. You can request to withdraw at any time by contacting the ev.energy support team. Drivers who have already completed enrollment and received their reward will not be affected by a site withdrawal.
Your site code is provided by your property manager. If you haven't received one, contact your property manager and ask if they have enrolled the property's installed EV chargers in the Detroit FlexCharge program. If the property is not yet enrolled, ask your property manager to email detroitflexcharge@ev.energy to get started.
Your $50 reward is processed after ev.energy successfully verifies that your EV charger is connected and you complete your first charging session post-connection. You'll receive a notification when your reward is on its way.
No. The enrollment-phase reward is simply for connecting your charger — you don't need to change your charging habits, schedule, or behavior. Just sign up, connect, and collect your reward. During the program, we may ask you to change your charging behaviour for further rewards.
Yes — this program requires connecting your SWTCH or ChargePoint account, not just your vehicle.
ev.energy does not store your EV username and password. Once you enter your credentials, they are exchanged with your vehicle manufacturer for a secure token. This token is stored securely and encrypted in ev.energy’s cloud platform, hosted by Amazon Web Services.
By connecting your vehicle to ev.energy, you consent to ev.energy collecting: vehicle make, model, trim and year; VIN; battery size; battery state of charge; plug-in and unplug times; start and stop times of charging sessions; kWh consumed; and vehicle charging location.
Charging data is combined with aggregated data from all programme participants and stored on ev.energy’s secure servers, hosted by Amazon Web Services.
