Zaptec Setup Guide

‍

Setting up your Zaptec Charger

  • How to use this guide
  • Part 1: Connecting your Zaptec charger to ev.energy
  • Part 2: Troubleshooting
  • Part 3: Getting started with the ev.energy app
  • Further support

‍

How to use this guide

This guide explains how to connect a Zaptec charger using the ev.energy app or a partner app powered by ev.energy.

Skip to the ‘Connecting your Zaptec charger to ev.energy’ section if you have already created a Zaptec account, got your charger installed and connected it to a WiFi network.

Likewise, skip the ‘Troubleshooting’ section if you’re not experiencing any of the specified issues.

‍

Before you begin

Before you begin to set up your Zaptec charger, you’ll first need to have an authorized Zaptec Go installer physically install your charger and complete installation through the Zaptec app. During this process, the installer will follow Zaptec’s instructions to enter in the installation details to make sure that your charger is safe to operate.

For more information about what your authorized installer needs to do, see the Physical installation and Installation in Zaptec app sections in Zaptec’s Help Center.

‍

Part 1: Connecting your Zaptec charger to ev.energy

1. Open the link below.

Click here to access the Zaptec x ev.energy portal.

‍2. Enter the Zaptec account credentials your installer used when setting up the charger. Reach out to your installer if you don’t have the credentials yet.

‍

‍

3. After logging in, select ‘Grant Access’ to provide access to your charger. Once completed, a page confirming successful permission to ev.energy will appear. Click ‘OK’ to return to the main dashboard.

‍

‍

4. Complete the charger connection to ev.energy.
4.1. Go the ‘Installations’ tab from the main portal dashboard and select your installation from the list.

‍4.2. Select the ‘Settings’ tab, followed by the ‘Authentication’ tab.

‍

‍

4.3. From the 3 tick boxes, select ‘OCPP-J 1.6 authentication’.

- In the URL textbox enter the following URL: wss://ocpp.ev.energy/{deviceId}

- Make sure the ‘Authorisation Required’ and ‘Use legacy OCPP behaviour’ are not selected.

- Tap ‘Save’.

‍

‍

5. Verify your charger has successfully connected.
5.1. From the navigation panel, tap on ‘Chargers’.

‍

‍5.2. Choose your charger from the list and tap on ‘Status’. Verify that your charger is online by checking the ‘Online?’ field; it should display ‘Yes’.

‍

‍

‍

Part 2: Troubleshooting

6. Proceed with the following steps if you encounter any of the specified errors. If not, you can skip to step 7 - getting started with the ev.energy app.

‍6.1. If the charger is not connecting or you see ‘OCPP server is disconnected’.

Revisit the settings and ensure you have entered the correct OCPP URL under ‘Installations’ > ‘Select Charger’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘Authentication’ > ‘OCPP-J 1.6 Authentication’.

The URL must read as wss://ocpp.ev.energy/{deviceId}

Tap ‘Save’ and check the status of the charger.

‍

6.2. If the issue persists:

  • Navigate to ‘Chargers’ > ‘Select your charger’.
  • Access ‘Settings and ensure the ‘Password’ text box under the ‘OCPP Settings’ header is empty. Note: The password field may be pre-filled with a password - remove this text to continue
  • Tap ‘Save’ and then ‘Restart Charger’.
  • Wait a couple of minutes and check the charger status page. Your charger should be online without any errors.

‍

‍

‍

‍

Part 3: Getting started with the ev.energy app

7. To get started, you’ll need to download the ev.energy app or a partner app powered by ev.energy.

‍8. Before we can charge your vehicle, we need to collect some information and securely connect your vehicle or charger. Create an ev.energy account to proceed.

‍9. Set your home and charger location.

‍

‍

10. Select your vehicle make and model. Some EV brands will require you to log in to the vehicle manufacturer’s portal.

‍

‍

11. Next, you will be asked to set up your charger. Find ‘Zaptec’ in the charger make list and select it.

‍

‍

12. You will be asked if you have connected your Zaptec charger to WiFi, given service permissions and connected it to ev.energy via OCPP.

If you have already done this in step 4.3, tap ‘Continue’.

If you haven’t, copy the provided OCPP URL, tap on the provided link directing to the Zaptec installation portal and complete Steps 3, 4, and 5.

‍

‍

13. Next, you will be prompted to enter your charger’s serial number, which you can find in Zaptec’s user manual.

‍

14. If you have completed the previous steps correctly, your charger should now be connected.

A screen should pop-up saying “We’ve set up your Zaptec charger”.

At first, the charger connection status may appear as “Offline”, give it a couple of minutes to appear as “Online”. Tap ‘Continue’ - your charger is fully set-up!

‍

‍

15. If a screen appears with the message ‘Your charger can’t be found’, it means that there is either a problem with the OCPP URL that you entered in step 4.3 or the serial number you’ve used in step 13.

It might also mean that the Zaptec charger is not connected to the internet or the Zaptec app needs to be updated.

If addressing these doesn’t help, tap ‘Contact support’.
