ev.energy and Flexitricity are enabling EV drivers to participate directly in wholesale power trading, a landmark step toward a smarter, more flexible energy grid.

London, UK, 23 September 2025 – ev.energy, a leading global smart electric vehicle charging software platform, has successfully dispatched EV charging in UK wholesale power trading markets. This was achieved through a collaboration with Flexitricity. This achievement, among the first of its kind, marks a major step toward directly integrating residential assets into energy markets, supporting the UK’s shift to a smarter, more resilient power system.

ev.energy's platform, integrated with Flexitricity, has enabled 2,000 of its drivers to participate. The platform aggregates and optimizes their household EV charging to respond to real-time wholesale power price signals. The recent approval of the new P483 mechanism — which opens market access to all residential customers, not just those with “half-hourly settled” meters — is set to significantly expand this program, allowing even more of ev.energy's customers to get involved.

This innovation is especially timely. The National Energy System Operator (NESO) projects that over eight million battery electric vehicles will be on UK roads by 2030, a figure expected to swell to over 20 million by 2035. As EV adoption rapidly accelerates, managing this increasing grid demand will be crucial for a secure, sustainable, and cost-effective electricity system.

Nick Woolley, CEO and Co-Founder of ev.energy, said: "As EV adoption accelerates, managing the growing demand on the grid is a significant challenge. By pioneering this new capability with Flexitricity, we're turning that risk into a valuable asset. For the first time, we're directly connecting residential EV charging to wholesale energy markets, empowering our drivers to be part of the solution, and rewarding them in the process. This is a significant step towards a smarter, more flexible, and consumer-centric energy system for the UK, helping to both decarbonise the grid and lower energy costs."

Andy Lowe, CEO of Flexitricity, said: "As EV adoption grows, grid demand is rising fast, but at Flexitricity, we’re turning that challenge into an opportunity. By connecting residential EV charging to wholesale energy markets for the first time, we’re empowering drivers to support the grid, earn rewards, and help build a smarter, greener energy system for the UK."

This initiative by ev.energy and Flexitricity aligns with Ofgem’s Clean Flexibility Roadmap, which highlights the critical need to unlock consumer flexibility to decarbonise the grid at the lowest possible cost.
