Get ready for the next Flex Event

Help National Grid ESO stop power outages this winter

The next Flex Event will be on:
Thursday 23 March 18:30 - 19:30

Here’s what you can do before, during, and after the event to help prevent power cuts this winter.

Before the Turn down event

Make sure you have Smart Charging turned on in the app - this is required to participate in the event, earn double rewards and enter into the monthly £1000 prize draw. You can continue to plug in your car as normal, you don’t need to change your charging schedule for this event. Just make sure your ready-by time is set in the ‘Smart’ tab.

During the turn down event

If you plugged in, avoid pressing ‘Boost’ unless you really need to. This enables us to move your charging time outside of the turn down event.
Don’t worry - your car will still be ready for the ready-by time you set in the ‘Smart’ tab.

Go the extra mile

During the event you can make an even bigger impact by:

- Not running major appliances (e.g. washing machines)
- Turning off unnecessary lights
- Turning down electric heating, but only if your health permits.
- Avoid charging devices (e.g. laptops)
- Try running appliances, charging devices, and pre-heating your home before the event starts.

After the event

Great work!

Together, along with the rest of the ev.energy community, you will have helped to reduce the demand on the energy grid and prevent blackouts across the UK.

Keep Smart Charging turned on - remember every smart charge you complete over 7kWh earns you double reward points, and gives you one additional entry into the monthly £1000 prize draw. Were you able to go the extra mile? Tag us on #TakeCharge and share what you got up to.

Thank you for taking part in the Demand Flexibility Service and being a Driver of Change.

FAQ

Do I have to stop using appliances during turn down events?
This is not a requirement of the scheme and is completely voluntary. We recommend users only reduce or stop using non-critical appliances, and only if you want to. By doing so, you can make an even bigger impact to prevent power outages this winter.

Can I turn Smart Charging off?
Smart Charging enables you to help the National Grid ESO reduce demand on the energy grid. You can turn Smart Charging off in the ‘Smart’ tab in the ev.energy app. However, please note that while Smart Charging is turned off you will not receive any rewards or entries into the £1000 prize draw. If you turn it back on again you will continue to earn rewards and entries. You will continue to receive communications about the Demand Flexibility Service from us unless you formally opt out of the programme by emailing us at support@ev.energy.
